Choosing a detection and monitoring system is easier when you know which questions actually separate a reliable product from an impressive-sounding one. This is a practical checklist, organized around the areas that matter most in practice.
Coverage and resolution. What imagery does it actually use, and at what resolution? A system built on open, well-documented satellite programmes (like Sentinel-2) has a track record you can independently verify; ask specifically what data source underlies the product, not just "satellite imagery."
Realistic speed claims. As covered in How Fast Are Satellite Alerts, Really?, ask for a typical, real-world time from change to alert, not a theoretical minimum. A vendor who gives you a specific, slightly unflattering number is more trustworthy than one who says "real-time" without qualification.
Do not ask only "how accurate is it." Ask:
A vendor who cannot answer the first question specifically, or who quotes one number without qualification, is giving you less information than it sounds like.
Flat, predictable pricing without hidden per-scene charges is easier to budget against than a system where cost scales unpredictably with usage.
Ask what happens when something goes wrong: what is the actual support response time by plan tier, is there a documented security posture (encryption, access controls, breach disclosure process), and does the vendor support standard integrations (webhooks, a documented REST API) or lock you into their own dashboard only.
A monitoring system that cannot get its findings into the tools your team already uses, email, Slack, Teams, or your own systems via API, creates an extra manual step that erodes exactly the speed advantage the system exists to provide. Ask specifically about webhook support and API access before assuming it exists.

Is the cheapest option usually the worst? Not necessarily, but a very low price with unclear data sourcing, no corroboration, and no support commitment is a common pattern worth investigating before committing.
How much does integration really matter? A lot, in practice. A system whose findings never reach the tools your team actually watches tends to get checked less and less over time.
